In 2015, he married into the Hilton family, as the husband of the American socialite, fashion designer and model, Nicky Hilton.

Rothschild is the heir presumptive to the Rothschild baronetcy.[2] As the heir presumptive, his only son, Chasen Rothschild (born 2022), is heir apparent.[3]

Early life

[edit]

James Amschel Victor Rothschild was born in Westminster, London, England on 14 May 1985,[4][5][6] as the youngest child and only son to Amschel Mayor James Rothschild (1955–1996),[7][8] a birth member of the Rothschild family's banking family of England,[9] and his wife, Anita Patience (née Guinness; born 1957), a birth member of the Guinness family.[10] He had two sisters, Kate Emma Rothschild (formally Goldsmith; born 1982)[11] and Alice Miranda Goldsmith (née Rothschild; born 1983).[12][13]

Rothschild was eleven years old when his father died by suicide at the Hôtel Le Bristol Paris.[14] When he was seventeen, his mother married James Adair Wigan (born 1950).[15]

Family

[edit]

Rothschild's paternal[16] grandparents were Victor Rothschild, 3rd Baron Rothschild (1910–1990)[17][18] and Teresa Rothschild, Baroness Rothschild (née Mayor; 1915–1996).[19] His aunt is Emma Rothschild (born 1948). His half-uncle, through his grandfather's first marriage, was Jacob Rothschild, 4th Baron Rothschild (1936–2024).[20] His cousin is Nathaniel Rothschild, 5th Baron Rothschild (born 1971).[3]

Rothschild's maternal grandparents were James Edward Alexander Rundell Guinness (1924–2006) and Pauline Vivien (née Mander; 1926–2017). His aunt is Sabrina Guinness (born 1955). His other aunt and uncle, Julia Samuel (née Guinness; born 1959) and Hugo Guinness (born 1959), are twins.[21]

Rothschild's eldest sister, Kate, married the financier Ben Goldsmith at St Mary's Church, Bury St Edmunds on 20 September 2003.[22][23] They have three children together, a daughter and two sons.[24] The couple divorced in 2013,[25] following her extramarital affair[26][27] with the American rapper Jay Electronica.[28] After her divorce, she began a relationship with the entrepreneur Paul Forkan. They have a son together.[29][30] On 8 July 2019, her 15-year-old daughter, Iris Annabel Goldsmith, was killed in a quad bike accident at Cannwood, their former dairy farm, in North Brewham, Somerset.[31][32] Part of the land at Cannwood is now a memorial stone circle for his late niece.[33]

Rothschild's elder sister, Alice, married the Conservative Party politician Zac Goldsmith at WWT London Wetland Centre in 2013.[34] Zac is the elder brother of Kate's former husband, Ben.[35] They have three children together, two daughters and a son.[36] The couple announced their separation in March 2023.[37]

Rothschild began his career as an investment banking professional at N M Rothschild & Sons Limited.[38] He has previously served as an Analyst at JNR UK Ltd. He served as an Analyst at Hargreave Hale Limited from 2005 to 2006.[39]

Rothschild has served as a Partner and Vice President at Monument Capital Group Holdings LLC since 2010.[40] He was a co-founder of West Arrow, an investment and advisory firm. He also serves as a Partner at Lepe Partners LLP.[41]
